A Little Bit About Aerik
Aerik Harbert is a sound designer located in Southern California by way of Pasadena, Maryland. He is currently working on his MFA in Sound Design at the University of California - Irvine Department of Drama, and looks forward to graduating in the Spring of 2023. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with his BA in Design and Production in 2017, theatre allowed him to travel across the Mid-Atlantic, working stints at the Totem Pole Playhouse, Baltimore Center Stage, Hangar Theatre Company, and Towson University before making his way to the West Coast where he resides now. Some of his favorite past productions include The Revolutionists, Xanadu, This Is On Fire, Far Away, and Indeterminacy.
Aerik’s work explores integrating environmental effects with surround sound to craft ambiances which allow audiences to feel immersed in the world of a play, drawing them closer to the storytelling unfolding on stage. He is also interested in finding opportunities to supplement natural sounds with music and synthesis to heighten emotional experiences. Aerik also loves working with actors in the studio, coaching, recording, and editing voice over performances.
When he isn’t working on a project, Aerik can usually be found playing video games or streaming a new series (usually both at the same time). Other regular activities include exercising at the gym or waiting in line at the nearest boba shop. He also enjoys his weekly D&D game, and always says he’d like to go hiking more often but never does.
